Position: Agency Attorney (Associate General Counsel) DOP seeks to hire one (1) Agency Attorney to serve as an Associate General Counsel reporting to the General Counsel. This role involves working in the General Law Unit with significant independence in judgment and decision-making. Responsibilities include: Conducting legal research and providing guidance on operational legal issues, liability, and risk assessments. Negotiating, drafting, and reviewing complex agreements, contracts, and leases. Drafting policies, procedures, and operational documents. Recommending statutory and regulatory revisions. Preparing legal briefs, opinions, affidavits, and memoranda of law. Responding to subpoenas and FOIL requests. Formulating position statements on discrimination charges. Acting as a liaison with agency executives, governmental bodies, and law enforcement. Serving as a liaison with the NYC Law Department on litigation matters. Minimum Qualifications

1. Admission to the New York State Bar.
2. One year of legal experience after admission, or six months as an Agency Attorney Intern.

Candidates must remain in good standing with the NYS Bar. Experience Levels To qualify for Assignment Level II, candidates need one year of legal experience at Level I or two years of comparable legal experience post-admission. For Level III, two years at Levels I/II or three years of similar experience are required. Preferred Skills Experience in criminal and civil law. Litigation and advocacy experience. Excellent legal writing and communication skills. Strong research skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook. Experience with legal case management databases.
