A Brief Overview
The Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) completes patient care activities and provides clerical support as delegated by the RN. PCNAs perform duties including, but not limited to: ADLs, vital signs, I&O, 12-lead ECG, bladder scan, hygiene, and venipuncture (where applicable). Familiarity with using: Wheelchair, EKG equipment, patient assistive devices, and patient care equipment specific to assigned population. Assists with patient data collection and reporting. Maintains the patient record (in written and/or electronic format). Facilitates communication and efficient unit operations. Orients newly hired PCNAs. \n

An Out-Patient PCNA will rotate between clinical tasks (rooming patients, checking vitals, assisting with procedures, ect) and administrative tasks (patient check in/out, appointment scheduling, payment collection, verifying patient information, ect). A UH Timeshare office has a variety of providers from multiple specialties that staff assist. This position does have an a travel component.

• Performs basic patient care tasks as delegated by the RN and assists, under the direction of the RN, in the implementation of the established plan of care.

• Compassionate in all interactions with patients, families, and peers.
\n
• Follows established evidence-based prevention guidelines to promote positive patient outcomes. (15%)
\n
• Provides a safe environment in patient rooms and on unit.
\n
• Facilitates stocking and ordering of supplies for patient care.
\n
• Assists with unit communication.
\n
• Acts as a key resource for onboarding and training new team members.
\n

• Complies with all policies and standards.

• For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.

• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

• High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
\n

Experience Qualifications

• Experience in a hospital setting (Preferred)
\n

• Basic patient care skills. (Preferred proficiency)

• Effective communication with people from varied socioeconomic backgrounds. (Required proficiency)
